This is the fourth vintage of the Boulder Bank series of wines. Twenty-five year veteran winemaker, Nick Goldschmidt, has created this product to showcase two of New Zealands preeminent varietals Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
Having made wine worldwide for many years, Nick has returned to his New Zealand roots to create Boulder Bank. This Pinot Noir comes from the WaxEye Vineyard on Hawkesbury Road in the Omaka area. Planted in 1999, these new Dijon clones are cane-pruned to reduce yield and have separate shoots for maximum cluster exposure. With an east-facing aspect of undulating glacial soils, the WaxEye Vineyard receives increased air flow and cooling. Humidity is also kept to a minimum.
Deep black cherry color, with dusty plum and autumn forest on the nose. Flavors of red berry jam and cherry. Yields were lower in 2009 versus 2008, and the wines show more jammy fruit than usual.
